California is one of the most popular elopement destinations in the US, with its diverse backdrops spanning from stunning mountains and other worldly rock formations, to enchanting forests and rugged coastlines. California has something for everyone, whether you are looking for something spontaneous like Las Vegas or want to elope in luxury at a dreamy cliffside hotel in Big Sur. Elopement weddings are the way to go in 2023 (in my opinion). Keep the most romantic parts of your wedding day and leave the hassle.

For couples that want to find an elopement venue that is off the beaten path, check out one of these destinations!

1. Korakia Pensione, Palm Springs

Korakia Pensione is the perfect luxury elopement destination, nestled beneath the palm trees in a desert oasis. With Moroccan styled villas and 1920’s architecture, this chic bohemian venue is truly a hidden gem. Korakia Pensione has private suites, a relaxing pool, healing yoga, spa offerings, and a vintage library. It even has traditional Moroccan tea services in the afternoons. Forbes travel names this hotel one of the “sexiest in America”, making it one of my top picks for luxury elopement destination venues.

2. Catalina Island

Before flying halfway across the world to Spain to elope, check out Catalina Island as a Mediterranean dupe! This gorgeous island is known for its charming town, bright blue waters, colorful architecture, and a beautiful harbor. There are plenty of accommodations on the island including airbnb’s, and luxury hotels like the Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel or the Descanso Beach Club. This island gives you a taste of the Mediterranean without having to leave the US. There are numerous ceremony spots on the island but one of my favorites is Lover’s Cove for breathtaking island views and stunning backdrops.

3. Sea Ranch Lodge, Sonoma County

The iconic and historical Sea Ranch Lodge is on a 53 acre ranch that was originally settled on in the 1880’s. The Ranch’s architecture was centered around an intentional way of living with environmental stewardship at the forefront. The Lodge was built using materials that are mostly untouched and natural, inspired by conservation. There are 7 guest houses that were newly built on the property, and use of the main Lodge is available for intimate weddings. The sweeping green valley against the rugged coast creates the dreamiest background for photos. This elopement destination is for the lovers who want a ceremony location that is as intentional as they are.
