I absolutely loved this day at the Santa Barbara Courthouse with LeAnne, Matt, baby Kennedy, and their pup Reese. It was LeAnne’s birthday, and they had escaped for a few days to Santa Barbara to celebrate. She asked if I would drive up to Santa Barbara to do a family session with their 10 month old baby boy and I was ecstatic. Family sessions have this special kind of intimacy that makes me so grateful I get to do this work.
LeAnne and Matt wanted to take their photos somewhere with spectacular architecture instead of the beach cliché, and the Santa Barbara Courthouse definitely made those dreams come true. The couple also chose to wear more modern, black, and structured clothing which looked stunning against the Spanish buildings. LeAnne said she wanted the photos to feel more “formally informal”, and “editorial”, and that’s why she chose me as her photographer.
We spent the day shooting all around the historic grounds. The natural lighting, giant archways, fountains, and lush gardens gave these photos a depth that suited the family’s style without taking away from the portraits. And while I always love a beach session, this was a refreshingly new location for family photos.
