Maternity sessions are some of my favorite to shoot, the energy and literal life force that is emulating from motherhood is unlike anything else. And when you take maternity photos at a beach like El Matador in Malibu.. between the beautiful mama and the bright sunset, everything fills the images with a glow. I had the pleasure to capture Alex and her husband Micah during this exciting next chapter of their life, in the same place they were engaged. This night was particularly stunning with the strawberry full moon, which also caused a super high tide that we had to time all of the shots around. El Matador beach is one of my favorite places to shoot because there are so many locations wrapped into one with the stunning viewpoints, flowering grassy field, and cliffs.
Alex and Micah decided to road trip from Texas for their baby shower, and while they were in California she booked me for her maternity shoot. Alex was 6.5 months pregnant with their first baby girl. She wanted photos where she could feel at ease, and ones that showed the strong connection between her and Micah, so her daughter could look back at the images and see their love for each other.
These photos came out so gorgeous. I decided to edit several of them in black & white to center the attention on Alex and Micah. Pregnancy is surreal, and these pictures captured the simultaneous power and grace that is being a woman.
